Peeps by Scott Westerfeld

When my friend handed me a copy of Peeps and said that it was a vampire book my first words were, "Oh god, another Twilight, another Sookie Stackhouse, another Blue Bloods"

But I was wrong. These days vampire books are everywhere, and no matter how great a book is it will always be in that group of vamp novs. This book took a different spin on things. The book presents vampirisim as a viral disease, transmitted through the saliva. And of course our protagonist snogs a woman who, surprise, surprise is a vampire. However, he doesn't become a fanged menace. He just becomes a carrier for the disease.

Cal the protagonist accidentally infected several girlfriends, and after finding out what he has become, he enters a secret cult called the Night Watch. The Night Watch exists only to eradicate the disease from the face of the earth.

But strange things are afoot, and it's up to Cal to find out what.

Back from Hidelburg

Back from Hidelburg.
The city was beautiful, but the trip was boring.

I got a £300 comission chequce, which is going to be spent on new gear for my laptop. Actually, I am working on a laptop with a broken screen, no CD drives, and a tendancy to rearrange my writing. I am using my brothers CD drive and a storage stick for uploading files of discs. I am also using my old computer scree for writing and browsing.

I like to call it my Lapueter, not to be confused with the floating island of Laputa.

Two great books and Hidelburg

I'm flying into Hidelburg Germany tomorrow. A few short-stories of mine are being published in a German Scifi mag. They want to discuss my pay cheque.

I am going to be flying business Claus. Yes that's right, business class! oh what luxury. But whilst I am flying in plan reread two great books by two of my favorite Authors. The books are The Merlin conspiracy by Diana Wynne Jones and Flyte by the fab Angie Sage.

Those two books should mellow me out so I can sleep well on the plane, of course I'm a bad flyer.
But if they don't wok I have a bag of sleeping tablets with me. They should do the trick, LOL.

The Obama inaguration

I flew into DC to see history being made.
It was crowded, as you can imagen.

I had to stand on my friend Ken's shoulders to get a good view. But no matter where you stood, you could still see a breathtacking sight...Aretha Franklin's hat.
