Peeps by Scott Westerfeld

When my friend handed me a copy of Peeps and said that it was a vampire book my first words were, "Oh god, another Twilight, another Sookie Stackhouse, another Blue Bloods"

But I was wrong. These days vampire books are everywhere, and no matter how great a book is it will always be in that group of vamp novs. This book took a different spin on things. The book presents vampirisim as a viral disease, transmitted through the saliva. And of course our protagonist snogs a woman who, surprise, surprise is a vampire. However, he doesn't become a fanged menace. He just becomes a carrier for the disease.

Cal the protagonist accidentally infected several girlfriends, and after finding out what he has become, he enters a secret cult called the Night Watch. The Night Watch exists only to eradicate the disease from the face of the earth.

But strange things are afoot, and it's up to Cal to find out what.
